Black History: An American Celebration

Last month, The Coca-Cola Company celebrated Black History Month with a series of new ads featuring original poetry from Shaliss Hassell and the stunning illustrations of artist Kadir Nelson.

Nelson, whose illustrations inspired the tone of the ads, wanted to highlight a message of creativity, pride and progress. He also stressed the importance of reflecting on the past while looking forward to the future.

Like so many of us, Nelson remembers Coca-Cola moments shared with family and friends. Nelson's grandmother's used to offer him Coca-Cola as a reward for finishing his daily chores. This small gesture helped pass on a life lesson of responsibility.

Check out Nelson's stunning artwork below, and watch an interview with the artist here.
